Renee Breazeale on selling Victory Bolt & Specialty Company after 32 years in industrial fasteners, surviving a brain tumor, and why leadership is relationships instead of title.
Renee tells Greg Aden what happened after the sale in 2019, including a year working inside a large corporation, a season of depression, and the decision to write Soaring Through Adversity with Fabi Pressler of Spark Publications. She describes running the business from a wheelchair in 2008, reinventing the company to come out stronger on the financial statement with fewer people, and what that experience taught her about how people with disabilities are treated at work. She and her husband Ray now run the Victory Advantage Foundation, focused on education, empowerment and independent living.
They also talk about the mentor who put her in one of the first industrial fastener sales roles for a woman, why she misses being part of a team more than the sales, and what she looks for when she hires and mentors. Greg adds his own take on false summits, and why leading people is a privilege rather than a chore.
