Steve Chandler, author of more than 30 books, talks with Greg Aden about coaching distinctions like expectations versus agreements, serving versus pleasing, and victim versus owner.

Steve explains why he never uses the term work life balance with a client, calling it an abstract, unachievable project, and why he coaches the whole person instead. He unpacks the shift from living by uncommunicated expectations to making clear requests and committed agreements, at work and at home, and how a leader who leads by agreement can hear an honest yes or no. He also shows how to convert a complaint into a request, why pleasing people in the moment damages trust while serving them with the truth builds it, and why a victim mindset is a thought habit rather than a permanent flaw.

Steve and Greg talk about coaching as a co-creation between two people, checking in throughout a session rather than waiting until the end to ask if it was valuable. Steve closes with his newest book, The Power of Systems, written with a co-author, and why moving a client out of their psychology and into a system leaves them lighter and more creative.
