Chinasa Ude Imo on Empowering Women in Leadership, Access, Capacity and Mentorship

Chinasa Ude Imo grew up in Abia State, Nigeria, and lost her mother young. That loss shaped the work she does today, and her mother, a teacher who fought to keep her daughters in school, was her first mentor. In this conversation with Greg Aden, Chinasa argues that getting more women into leadership takes more than balancing the numbers. It takes access to training, real capacity, and women already in those seats reaching back to show the path they walked. She also shares the first question she asks anyone who wants her as a mentor, where do you want to be in ten years, and why mentorship is not limited by gender. Along the way she talks about why she chose Chicago, what her work as a behavioral scientist taught her about fear of the unknown, and how she built a set of mentors by studying people from a distance long before she could ever meet them.
