Jandel Allen Davis: Antidote to Loneliness, Wholehearted Leadership, Part One

Dr. Jandel Allen Davis, President and CEO of Craig Hospital, opens the Leadership Development Series with a talk she calls "Antidote to Loneliness, Wholehearted Leadership," delivered April 28th, 2022. She builds it in four acts: the photo of the leader sitting alone and pensive, the 40 days in the desert when hard decisions wake you at two in the morning, the fight in the arena where the loudest critic in the stands turns out to be yourself, and finally the antidote. Along the way she talks about the ego needs that keep her stuck, the dragon in her own head, why courage is fear that said its prayers, and the paradox that the hardest decisions are never actually made alone. She closes with poet David Whyte and the idea that the antidote to exhaustion is not necessarily rest, it is stepping fully into the work and risking yourself wholeheartedly.
