Daniel del Olmo on the Inverted Pyramid and Leading With Compassion

Daniel del Olmo grew up in hotels, has worked across 70 countries, and now leads Sage Hospitality Group in Denver. In this conversation with Greg Aden he describes leadership as an inverted pyramid, with the leader at the bottom supporting the team, and sums up what the moment calls for in two words: humanity and compassion. He walks through Sage's You Belong initiative and its three pillars, connecting with associates and caring for their health and wellness, engaging their minds with information and learning during an uncertain time, and encouraging success through stretch assignments and recognition. Greg shares the lesson he got as a young bellman from Mr. Marriott, that if you take care of the people who live in the house, guests will have a good experience, and the two men talk about why they are really here and what led Daniel to support the LEADERSHIP Development Day on February 4, 2021.
