Courageous Conversations: Humility, Language and Emotion, September 9, 2021

Greg Aden walks through why most of us avoid the conversations that matter most, and what changes when we prepare for them the way an athlete prepares for a game. He covers four foundations of a courageous conversation, courage, curiosity, productivity and freedom from judgment, then works through three shifts leaders can make: leading with humility and empathy, choosing language on purpose, and processing emotion instead of dumping it on the people around us. Along the way he makes the case for replacing "I think" with "I believe," for owning hard conversations instead of delegating them, and for asking whether a relationship is important enough to put practice time on your calendar. Practical, honest, and just as applicable at home as it is at work.
