Work Through Unrest. Be A Leader!


As we pause during these interesting times and take our temperature and that of our people and organizations, do we sense any unrest?  If you sense it, then it’s present.  It is all about your leadership.  Your leadership! It is so easy to hide our heads in the sand.  Reality and effort come when we look into the mirror and know what is right and what needs to be done.

We often run from confrontations only to discover that if we create time for bravery and confront an unjust situation, we will avoid the consequences of unrest.  I often speak of courageous conversations and at no better time is this the key to success of today’s leader.  People in your organization will respect a leader who stands up for what is best for the people and organization more so than someone who ignores what is happening right beneath their nose.

Leadership is not for the faint of heart.  Just imagine what it was like for those great leaders before us!  To lead with heart and do what is right is to serve all people.  Whether you have your team/employees working remotely or returning to the office, now is the time to do the work to keep everyone focused on the prize, vision and supportive of the culture.  Where does your organization stand?  Conduct the courageous conversations so that all voices know they are being heard.  Think before you speak!

Take a quick overview of who you serve now, and where are you not seeing moments or worse missing opportunities to take action.  You are a leader.  Are you truly guiding, serving and elevating your teams?  Our great leaders before us implored us to work together and communicate with one another.  They encouraged us to not judge and not worry about our color or reputation but about our character and desire to serve others.

Change to some of us is uncomfortable as we are not always sure of the outcome. Have you lived in the comfort zone of avoidance too long?

Change brings growth however uncomfortable it may be.  We are living in uncertain times, forcing us to re-evaluate our business, personal lives and even our beliefs.

Build your leadership on solid principles and continue to serve those around you.  Look that person in the mirror and think about what is truly important for today and tomorrow.  Yesterday is gone.
