Shae Clark on How the Best Leaders Empower Their Teams

Shae Clark, Vice President of Human Resources at FirstBank, talks with Greg Aden about empowering teams, decentralized leadership and life after the Navy.

Shae reframes the familiar "trust but verify" idea. He trusts his people to do the work and verifies they have the tools to succeed. Greg pushes on that distinction, noting that many leaders who say they trust are really checking whether the work was done their way. Shae also shares what almost six years in the US Navy taught him, including what he learned from leaders who treated people as a means to an end, and why he never needed to raise his voice to get results.
