We as Leaders across America celebrate Independence Day.  Have you thought about what this day truly means for you and your business?  The impact of the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson has been the cornerstone of American history.  I wonder if Mr. Jefferson realized at the time of writing the document the effect it would have on future generations.

The colonists had a vision of obtaining freedom, creating a new world away from British colonial rule. The colonists stood strong for their vision.

As leaders/business owners we typically have a vision or mission statement expressing our beliefs and purpose of why we exist as a business.  My mission statement is to serve, guide and lead so others may inspire, influence and impact other lives on a daily basis.

The colonists mission statement:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. 

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  Powerful words for the colonists to create in their lives.  Passion did exist within the depths of their being to accomplish the vision of what our country is today.  They made a difference in the lives of many.

I ask, are you coming from a place of passion or is the passion missing behind your vision?  We as leaders can make a difference in the lives of others just as our fore fathers did in claiming their right to be independent and free in 1776.  As we all know freedom is not free without the sacrifice and service of those who carried out the mission statement of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Thinking of your legacy that you will leave behind; will it be remembered as we remember this upcoming day of independence?  Is your passion living as a fire in your belly that shines through?
